Here’s a little something about the election that isn’t a political rant. Ever wonder why Election Day is always held on a Tuesday?
“In 1845, the United States was largely an agrarian society. Farmers often needed a full day to travel by horse-drawn vehicles to the county seat to vote. Tuesday was established as election day because it did not interfere with the Biblical Sabbath or with market day , which was on Wednesday in many towns.”
So there ya go.

I’m glad my place of work gave us a paid holiday today. We got the actual voting part out of the way bright and early and now we’re going to monitor shitposts drink and watch the polls roll in all day.

I’m jelly of your day off, I have the white noise on volume 11 in my office to drown out the political chit chats.

Wow really? That was very nice of them. Probably was a good idea to go ahead and get it over with. There were already lines out the door to some of the voting places I passed on my way to work. I say drink, be merry, and just enjoy the today. Regardless of who wins, tomorrow will be a new day.

Well yeah but now we need a federal holiday because most people can’t get off work.

Working in the auto industry - our production/holiday calendars are negotiated years in advance and in conjunction with the UAW. We also have Friday off for Veterans Day :)

I have a bad history with headphones and spilling coffee/otherwise making a mess.

That would help, but not much honestly. Most people work in places where they are open every day of the year and don’t get the luxury of federal holidays.

Nice. I work at a Credit Union so we’re off Friday as well. One of the few perks of working in banking haha.

It probably wouldn’t help much but it’s better than our current system.

I’ve advocated for years for making Election Day a national holiday. It will never happen, because voting on a work day is a perfect way to keep the poors from voting.

Ours are always a Thursday in the UK, maybe for the same reason.

I think for the UK it was chosen for Thursday because with Friday being a payday and Sunday being a day for worship the government didn’t want certain influences to dictate outcomes. Also, Thursday was once a popular day to close shop early, thus giving people more time to go and vote.

And we go out drinking after a poor result.

I’m not from the states, but I know here in Canada an employer is legally required to give you time off work to go and vote. Is it not the same down there?

Yeah why would we do anything logically.
